HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE

HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE

Let's say it's 6.15pm and you're going home (alone of course),
after an unusually hard day on the job. You're really tired, upset and frustrated. Suddenly you start experiencing severe pain in your chest that starts to drag out into your arm and up into your jaw. You are only about five miles from the hospital nearest your home. Unfortunately you don't know if you'll be able to make it that far. You have been trained in CPR, but the guy that taught the course did not tell you how to perform it on yourself..!!

NOW HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE..

Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack, without help, the person whose heart is beating improperly and who begins to feel faint, has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness.
However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously.
A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest.
A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let-up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again.
Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating.
The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can get to a hospital.

Rather than sharing jokes please.. contribute by Sharing this which can save a person's life!!!!

The Dalai Lama speaking words of wisdom

Tenzin Gyatso (14th Dalai Lama) 2008, 2005 & 2...Image via Wikipediahttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEogJacjLTE
Dalai Lama  -  Yesterday 11:40 AM  -  Public
The very purpose of spirituality is self-discipline. Rather than criticizing others, we should evaluate and criticize ourselves. Ask yourself, what am I doing about my anger, my attachment, my pride, my jealousy? These are the things we should check in our day to day lives.

Dalai Lama  -  Jan 23, 2012  -  Public
It is important that when pursing our own self-interest we should be “wise selfish” and not “foolish selfish”. Being foolish selfish means pursuing our own interests in a narrow, shortsighted way. Being wise selfish means taking a broader view and recognizing that our own long-term individual interest lies in the welfare of everyone. Being wise selfish means being compassionate.

Hangout Live on "How to improve Hangouts" with +James Lawson and Pio Dal Cin

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWbxvpcEXwQ

here is the Live hangout for +Katherine Gramann who couldn't attend for technical reason and for+Chee Chew (who snobbed me as usual).. Too bad none of the +Google people attended the hangout.

Maybe next time
James Lawson-Smith's profile photoJames Lawson-Smith originally shared this post:
On the 25th myself and +pio dal cin hosted the first hangout on-air to discuss how to improve hangouts. We invited a wide range of people to come along and let us know what they wanted to see improved, add or changed in the Hangouts.

Click Expand this post for participants and points raised in this show.

Percipients where: +pio dal cin +Robert Redl +Sarah Hill +Shefali Burns +Joseph Puglisi +Mike Downes +Bruce Garber +Tshaka Armstrong +Fraser Cain +Osman A +Gary Levin +M Monica+Matthew Carano and +George Krieger

Points raised in the hangout were:
• Have a green/red system for mic mute button

• Be able to reserve space for people in the hangout

• Be able to open a second video chat to have a private chat but still be able to get back into main hangout.

• Be able to lock participant number. Ie only 6 people can join this hangout

• Better ways of finding public hangouts

• Have a courtesy document explain what people should and should not do in a hangout

• When you hover over someone’s name the ID Box pops up, the same as if you hover on someone’s name in the stream.

• Be able to easily tell what time zone people are in. Maybe have a +5 or -5 in their thumbnail to say they are 5 hours ahead or behind your own timezone.

On-air specific topics
• Be able to have a lower thirds come up in the stream with person’s name when you green box someone

• Create a universal hangout time zone

• Have a system whereby the host has to authorise entry to the hangout if link Is shared

• Fix URL loophole. If the On-Air hangout url gets posted ANYONE can join that on-air hangout

• Have an individual audio function. Ie, be able to turn the hangout down without turning yourself down (Musicians would love to do this)

QR Codes Dos and Donts

Do you have a love/hate relationship with QR codes like I do? I couldn’t figure out why I felt that way until I read a recent article from Entrepreneur Magazine about Ann Handley’s unfulfilled experience with a QR code on a pizza box. It made me realize that I don’t like them when people use them incorrectly; yet, I love them when they are used creatively and correctly.
Also, did you know 20M Americans scanned a QR code from Aug-Oct 2011? Of those, 59.4% scanned them while at home, according to comScore. And in another report from comScore, more than 1 in 3 have a household income $100K or higher.

How to motivate yourself (even on Mondays)

English: MotivationImage via Wikipediahttp://www.successful-blog.com/1/the-top-7-ways-to-motivate-yourself-even-on-mondays/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+successful-blog%2FWuQV+%28Liz+Strauss+at+Successful+Blog%29

Motivation, without it, we move slower. We’re susceptible to distraction and procrastination. Inside a company or working from home, what fuels our success is motivation — that reason, that determination to make something good happen.
I figured out early that it wasn’t such fun to be unmotivated. In fact, it was both stressful and boring. I didn’t like myself much and maybe that is what struck that match that got the home fires burning. Once I made it a quest to motivate myself, the rest was mostly easy. Here are 7 ways I found to motivate yourself even on Mondays!

Toward a more inclusive naming policy for Google+by Bradley Horowitz

Bradley Horowitz  -  10:07 PM (edited)  -  Public
Toward a more inclusive naming policy for Google+

With Google+, we aspire to make online sharing more like sharing in the real world. And during the Google+ signup process, we've asked users to select the name they commonly use in real life.

Since launch we've listened closely to community feedback on our names policy, as well as reviewed our own data regarding signup completion. The vast majority of users sail through our signup process -- in fact, only about 0.1% submit name appeals.

When we analyze the set of all name appeals on Google+, we find that they generally fall into three major categories:
- The majority (60%) of these users want to simply add nicknames.
- About 20% of appeals are actually businesses (who are inadvertently trying to set up their business as a Profile, rather than using Google+ Pages which were intended for this purpose.)
- And the remaining 20% would either prefer to use a pseudonym or another unconventional name.

Today we’re pleased to be launching features that will address and remedy the majority of these issues. To be clear - our work here isn’t done, but I’m really pleased to be shipping a milestone on our journey.

Nicknames and Names in Another Script

Over the next week, we’ll be adding support for alternate names – be they nicknames, maiden names, or names in another script – alongside your common name. This name will show up on your Google+ profile and in the hovercards which appear over your name. In the next few weeks, we’ll be displaying it more broadly as part of your name in other areas of Google+ as well. So if you’re Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Jane Doe (Smith), or Saurabh Sharma (सौरभ शर्मा), you can now communicate your identity the way you want to.

To add an alternate name, go to your Google+ profile, click Edit Profile, select your name and click on “More options.” (See attached photos)

It’s important to remember that when you change your name in Google+, you’re changing it across all services that require a Google Profile.

Other Established Identities

On Google+, we try to flag names which don’t represent individuals, such as businesses or abstract ideas which should be +Pages. Sometimes we get this wrong, so starting today we’re updating our policies and processes to broaden support for established pseudonyms, from +trench coat to+Madonna.

If we flag the name you intend to use, you can provide us with information to help confirm your established identity. This might include:

- References to an established identity offline in print media, news articles, etc
- Scanned official documentation, such as a driver’s license
- Proof of an established identity online with a meaningful following

We’ll review the information and typically get back to you within a few days. We may also ask for further information, such as proof that you control a website you reference. While a name change is under review, your old name will continue to be displayed. For new accounts without an old name, your profile will be in a non-public, read-only state during the review. Either way, you'll be able to see the status of your review by going to your profile.

For more details, check out the Google+ Names Policy:http://support.google.com/plus/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1228271

To reiterate, the features described herein will be rolling out over the next couple days.

Today is a small step towards improving the ways in which you can communicate your identity on Google+. We will be listening to feedback from the community and will continue to refine all aspects of how we handle names and identity over the coming weeks, months and beyond.

Thanks for your continuing feedback and support.

Bradley and Team G+

Dalai Lama though

Dalai Lama  -  Yesterday 11:35 AM  -  Public
There is a saying in Tibetan that “at the door of the miserable rich man sleeps the contented beggar.” The point of this saying is not that poverty is a virtue, but that happiness does not come from wealth, but from setting limits to one’s desires, and living within those limits with satisfaction.

A bycicle that plays vinile records

Feats per Minute
Who needs an iPod or an iPhone to listen to music when out cycling when you can have this record playing bike.
The bicycle, which plays vinyl records on the wheels while you ride, is the work of Dutch designers Merel Sloother, Liat Azulay and Pieter Frank de Jong.
They designed the bike as part of their Feats per Minute project. The tempo of your bike ride determines the beats per minute you produce, so pop and hip hop records, which are usually between 90 and 130 BPM, should be easy to play at speed while you ride.
The bike contains an amplifier and is supported by a nine volt battery to give the amplifier a sufficient energy boost to play the records out back through the sound horn.

Challenges in the build

“The idea is pretty simple; basically, a wheel and dynamo work the same way as a record player. But it was not as easy as it looks. First, we had to come up with a solution for the wheels; how can we change the records? The forfork was blocking the wheel. That’s why we changed a 30 year old bike into a lefty bike,” the designers said.
“The biggest challenge of all was to make sure that the needles would stick to the record and follow the grooves, without skipping too much.”

Prototype

At the moment the bike is a prototype with the designers looking to hone the design in the future. They told the It’s Nice That website, that their goal for the bike was not mass production, but they wanted to see at least one Feats per Minute in every city.
As it looks now, we think it is a fantastic looking bike and would be a fun item to have at any celebration of the bicycle.
The bike was showcased at Dezeen Space, a pop up gallery in Shoreditch in London, in October.

Video

Pieter has kindly let us know there is a Youtube video of the Feats per Minute bike in action at Dezeen Space.

Dramatic phone call (audio recorded) between Costa Concordia Captain Schettino and the Coast Guard commander

https://plus.google.com/115135005437142391944/posts/C1NCvsTGZrX

The phone call between the Cruise ship's captain Schettino and the commander of the local Coast Guard telling him to go back on board after he abandoned the ship.
The recording is in italian but here is the translation of the conversation

CRUISESHIP CAPTAIN TELEPHONE TALK WITH COAST GUARD

Time: 21.30 - Schettino, captain of the Concordia is on the phone with his retired master Mario Palombo.
" I will greet you" says Schettino
Palombo was not at the Giglio's island that night, he was out in the city of Grosseto.

The phone call is interrupted and the old master (palombo) senses that something went wrong.
The Coast Guard wants to know what is going on and calls Schettino.
"Nothing wrong, just a technical problem"

Time: 21.49

The passengers' nightmare has already started... A long silence follows.

Time: 00.32:

The Coast Guard calls Schettino ( the ship's captain) on the cellphone that is already sitting on the reefs away from the ship. He lies:
"How many passengers are still on board?"
"Two, three hundred... I'm going back on the front of the ship to see what is going on" Lies Schettino.
The truth is that most of the 4000 passengers are still on board. The order to abandon the vessel has been given only 40 minutes ago.

THIRD PHONE CALL

Ten minutes later a new phone call from the Coast Guard:
"How many passengers are still on board captain?"
Schettino lies again: " I was told that there are about 40 people still on the ship".
The Coast Guard understand the lie perpetrated by the captain.
"How could that be possible? Are you ON the ship?"
Schettino admits:
"No I left the ship because it' sinking"

THE COAST GUARD ORDER TO SCHETTINO

"How could you have abandoned the ship?"
Schettino keeps on with the lie:
"No I didn't abandon the ship, I'm still here".

Time: 1.46
The Coast Guard issues an order to Schettino:
"Return aboard... You must tell us how many people there are still there"
How many women... Children? You must coordinate the rescue effords.. There are casualties..."
"How many?" Asks Schettino?

"You are the one who is supposed to tell us..." Answers angrly the Coast Guard.

"What are you going to do.. Go home?"
You must go back on board and tell us what is going on
"Ok Ok I'm going back" Replies Schettino, but he is lying for one more time.
Someone sees him inba Taxi.
